We Heart Creatives

This last week we traveled over every inch of Northern California. We talked with creatives from every industry possible about what their lives are like. We chatted with animators, photographers, sculptors, musicians, filmmakers, fashion designers, painters, brand strategist, graphic designers, actors, producers, and more. But what we found were adventurers, matadors, zen masters, and people who are following their hearts. It was a pretty amazing week and we want to thank everyone who stopped by, helped out, told us their story, and invited us into their homes. You guys are awesome, and we’re looking forward to telling your stories.

Pixar!

Last week we were invited to Pixar to check out their latest short film, La Luna, which has a ton of buzz right now! The film, which debuted to big reviews on the festival circuit, will be opening with Brave this summer, and it’s amazing. It’s a little early to put it on the calendar, but when it’s out, go see it!

After a presentation of their films reaching all the way back to 1984 (the historic Adventures of Andre and Wally B) to the present Small Fry, it was amazing to see how their work had progressed and continues to progress. The film played with a nice little intro and making of presentation by director Enrico Casarosa (who definitely deserves the oscar nom).

Inspire, Filming

Over the moon to announce Inspire, the documentary about where inspiration comes from, is filming this week!

If you haven’t heard about Inspire or what we’re doing, we’re currently interviewing creatives from every walk of life imaginable (okay, maybe not imaginable, but a lot) and asking them what it means to not only be creative but to do this for a living. It can be tough. It can be scary. But it can also be amazing. And ultimately ask, what inspires them to not only do it, but to keep doing it.

One Shot, Short Film

We’re excited to unveil a brand new version of One Shot! One Shot is an eighteen minute romp with oil tycoons, propaganda, glitches, and a little bit of blood!

One Shot is a film made in one take (well, two takes if you count the camera man falling over in the middle of take one to everyone’s surprise)! It’s an experimental piece we directed so that we could hang out with actors all day, play with guns, and dress up in ski masks. The film comes in two different parts – the first is a 52 minute glitched out opus, however that’s not why we’re here. Today, we unveil something for your lunch break, something for your eyeballs to enjoy this holiday season! The short film version and it’s awesome.

Check out One Shot, the short film, right here on Naissance or over on our Vimeo.

Tis the Season!

Happy Holidays from us here at Naissance to everyone everywhere! With 2011 fast coming to a close it’s now time to drink eggnog, start blasting remixed Christmas Carols, watch the Grinch, (the original 1966 version of coarse with Boris Karloff), and find some snow!

Stormtrooper Batman!

We are constantly creating. Not just with our clients, collaborators, and accomplices in crime, but because we love to experiment. In between meetings, and storyboard approvals, while the machines are busy rendering away, we like to sneak off and grab our spray paints. We try to figure out what happens when you mix colors, learn new splatter techniques, or pour water over a finished piece. We just like to know how it all works. This was one of those experiments. Stormtrooper Batman, the entire collection!

We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it. Click here to check out the full gallery!

Inspire 2012

Last year Naissance jumped off the deep end. We decided to make a film. That film was One Shot, and it was actually filmed entirely in one shot. From there it was edited and cut and glitched to perfection. It was something new. It was something scary. We’ve been making commercials and brand videos for years. We’ve worked on other people’s movies, and even a hundred or so short films, but One shot was something we were both nervous and simultaneously ecstatic about.

With One Shot behind us we’re super excited to officially announce Inspire!

Naissance will be diving into production on a documentary in 2012 about the creative industry. Creative work is some of the most challenging and yet uniquely satisfying work there is. In today’s cut throat economy and high pressure demands for more content with quicker delivery dates and slashed budgets, we ask creatives working in a smorgasbord of industries how did they find success, how do they define success, and what secrets have they found along the way. We ask about the late nights, the hard times, and the lessons learned. But most importantly we ask what inspires them?

You can take a look at Inspire right now! Check it out here on Naissance or on Vimeo.

How I Became an Elephant

Over the course of this last year, Naissance has been working on art direction and motion graphics for a beautiful feature called “How I Became an Elephant,” which tells the real life story of Juliette West, a girl from California working to save the lives of elephants across the world in Thailand. Naissance worked with production company Rattle the Cage – “How I Became an Elephant” is their latest in a line of a beautiful and touching films that make an impact on society. The film will be debuting at festivals internationally in 2012.

To check out some of the work we did on the film we have a short Montage you can see here or here.

What the Tech?

Brand new show opens for our friends over at Tecca TV and their show, “What the Tech?” The show package included not only the show open and close, but also a few Holiday lifts for the Christmas shopping season as well as an upcoming special next year for Dads and Grads! Naissance worked with Ballistic to create animations, text and on screen graphics as well as animated backgrounds and lower thirds.
